When did deceit become acceptable? Was it the moment people realized they could cower behind a dim screen and create the persona they feel at that moment? The pitiful reality that interest in another person is indicated almost solely by a swift swipe of a finger is dehumanizing. What can you really tell about a person through a screen? I'm not even just talking about Photoshop, filters, alternative lighting, or "working those angles." This goes back to history- to when screens were still being introduced to this country. The election in '60 is a great portrayal of this; Kennedy's presence on the black and white screen was superior to Nixon's. Historical analysts for decades have ranted, proclaiming Nixon's platform and policies surpassed those of Kennedy's in almost every way, yet Kennedy was the victor. Appearance was the indisputable deciding factor of this election. And so it continues...
Social Studies wasn't my favorite class in school by a long shot but my appreciation for it has certainly grown over the years. History really does repeat itself. We take everything we see presented gleaming on any handheld device as gospel: AOL instant messages, Myspace top 8 rankings, Wikipedia, and now dating profiles. The worst part is that we accept it! We, as a generation, Millennials, should take a stand... as you scroll on your phone while binge watching Nexflix in the background... ahh, the irony.

This is a really interesting perspective! And also a much needed slap in the face.

why thank you! I was so surprised that I remembered that election with Nixon and Kennedy... It's one of the only election facts I remember #modelcitizen #mycountrytisofthe #sweetland4distilleries

I'm not a millenial but it hasn't changed much. But before the apps you just sat and waited for the right one and that didn't work either. It takes that wake up moment to understand how much of this is really not in our hands. Loved your thoughts once again!!!

Honestly, I'd prefer guys to approach me in a bar, coffee shop, grocery store... I'm asking too much, aren't I? Lol But you're right, Jennifer; it's not in my hands at all. Each of these guys have taught me sucha lesson and it's helped me grow. I'll persevere though and pray about it daily. Thanks for reading and let me know any tips or advice you feel;)
