Words: you read them, shout them, and sing them everyday. There are some that are pleasing to the ear and others that are deemed "bad" or offensive. There are words that evoke pleasure, jubilance, or laughter as easily as ones that evoke hurt, shame, and rage. There are words that are quite perplexing as to why they are used or even maybe why they exist and their are words that you couldn't go a day without uttering. There are words fallen off of lips with no effort or thought as to how they will effect the ears they grace; these are the careless words uttered by acquaintances, strangers, maybe even loved ones so transfixed with their own world of clutter, they fail to ponder the effect to the cause of their sequenced sounds. But, what is far worse than unintentional dialect are preconceived statements-- words carefully constructed to evoke a certain reaction or a certain response they crave. This deliberate kind of speech is manipulation in its rawest form. It doesn't always possess pessimistic results, but it expects results none the less. Words are the cause...Heartbreak is the effect. These are all original words spoken-- err texted to my roommate. She's a girl with a heart of gold that's been slightly tarnished and scratched. This is blatantly evident in the series of messages above all uttered from different guys in the span of a year. A YEAR.
A year is hardly enough time to get settled in an apartment before your lease is up. A year is hardly enough time to absorb all the knowledge in your freshman year. A year is hardly enough time to build a foundation for a genuine friendship. A year of experience isn't enough foundation for an impressive resume. A year isn't enough time for a business to deem itself reputable. A year was certainly long enough to crush an already vulnerable soul. It was easily enough time to diminish the little worth this girl had left from being raised in a broken home, later maturing to a broken marriage. In her year of recovery, she experienced more empty words, yet her words were full. Full of generosity, full of endurance, and full of faith; she strived not to compare each to the last. Yet, they continued to paint beauty and evoke misery. Her words, however remained genuine.... and they are to this day. Words can affect others for days, months, and most often, years. Use yours wisely...
